On 6 and 9 August, atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On 7 August, the Japanese announced the formation of a Preparatory Committee for Indonesian Independence(PPKI) to accelerate preparations for establishing an Indonesian government for the whole of the East Indies, not just Java.
On 10 November, Indonesia celebrates Hari Pahlawan or Heroes Day in remembrance of the Battle of Surabaya which started on that very date in the year 1945. The bloody battle took place because Indonesians refused to surrender their weaponry to British army. British Army at that time was part of the Allied Forces.
1950: First Provisional Parliament of the United States of Indonesia convenes in Jakarta. Republic of Indonesia is established. Hatta becomes Prime Minister.
